The Holy Relics of St. John Chrysostom and St. Gregory the Theologian
The Holy Relics of St. John the Chrysostom and Gregory the Theologian were returned from Rome to the Ecumenical Patriarchate and placed in the Patriarchal Church of St. George. His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and other Orthodox Hierarchs traveled to Rome to receive the relics, which were a gift from the late Pope John Paul II. On November 29, 2004, His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America led a Pilgrimage of over 90 Archons from America to Istanbul and attended the Vespers of St. Andrew the Apostle at the Church of St. George for the Thronal Feast of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Pilgrims from all Orthodox jurisdictions arrived to venerate the Holy relics, which had been taken during the 4th Crusade (1204). With His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI
His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew welcomed His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI to the Ecumenical Patriarchate. On November 30, 206, His All-Holiness officiated at the Divine Liturgy for the Thronal Feast of St. Andrew the Apostle. His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI read the Lord's Prayer in Greek. At Ground Zero
On March 9, 2002, His All-Holiness officiated at the Liturgy for Saturday of the Souls and conducted a Memorial Service for the victims of Sept. 11 of the World Trade Center. Port Authority Police Officers and NYF were in attendance, along with family members of victims of Sept. 11. Later, His All-Holiness was taken by Port Authority Police to the site of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church at Ground Zero.
