He succeeded Patriarch Joasaph I, being elected into Patriarch by the vote of the hierarchy and the clergy of the Patriarchate. He was well-educated, but his opponents maliciously accused him to the High Gate, and he was deposed in humiliation from the throne.
Later, during the patriarchy of Dionysios IV (1467-1472), he was found innocent at a council in Constantinople, and was given the presidency of the archbishopric of Ochrid.
