The Right Reverend Athanasios (Theocharous), Bishop of Tropaeou, was
born in Marathovounos, Cyprus in 1943. He studied at the School of
Theology in Athens and was ordained to the diaconate on 6th August 1969
and to the priesthood on the 10th August 1969 by the Archbishop of
Thyateira Athenagoras Kokkinakis. As a Priest he served and as a Bishop
he continues to serve as Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Thyateira and
Great Britain. From 1969 to 1972 he served as a priest of the Greek
Orthodox Community of St. Athanasius and St. Clement, Cambridge. On
20th December 1976 he was appointed as priest-in-charge of the Greek
Orthodox Cathedral of the Dormition of the Mother of God in North
London, and has continued to serve until today. On the 12th April 1997,
he was made Auxiliary Bishop of Tropaeou by Archbishop Gregorios of
Thyateira and Great Britain.

The Holy and Sacred Synod convened today, January 10, 2012, under the chairmanship of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, for its regular session during which, among other matters, it discussed the issue that has arisen regarding the remand in custody of Fr.
