Anthimos of ThessalonicaHis Eminence, the Metropolitan of Thessaloniki, Anthimos Roussas was born in 1934 in Salmoni of Pyrgos Hlias. He graduated from the Philosophical and Theological Faculties of the University of Athens. He was ordained a Deacon in 1964 and a Priest in 1965. He was elected and ordained a Metropolitan on the 14th July 1974. He has acted as a high school teacher, priest in charge of the Church of St Basil in Athens, writer of the leaflet "The Lord's Voice" (1965-72), secretary of the Holy Synod, Director of the Theological Boarding House of the Apostolic Diakonia. He has written and published many articles.

He was elected Metropolitan of Thessalonica on the 26th April 2004.
