On Saturday, October 30, 2016, His All-Holiness attended Great Vespers at the Venerable Patriarchal Church for the feast of the Apostle Stachys, first Bishop of Byzantium, during which His Eminence Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Myra presided. The Patriarch attended Divine Liturgy the next day for the feast of Apostle Stachys, which was celebrated by Metropolitan Chrysostomos.

His All-Holiness granted audiences to:

  • His Eminence Metropolitan Gennadios of Sassima, Hierarchical Proistamenos of the district of Tataoula, with the Parish Council members of the Church of the Holy Twelve Apostles in Feriköy, and their President, Mr. Konstantinos Santaltzidos, Archon Exarchos, during which they invited the Patriarch to visit their newly restored sanctuary.
  • The Very Reverend Archimandrite Seraphim Stergiou, the new Abbot of the Holy Patriarchal and Stavropegic Monastery of Saint Nikanor Zavordas, in Greece.
  • The Very Reverend Archimandrite of the Ecumenical Throne Bartholomew Asteriadis, from the Holy Metropolis of Didymoteichon, Orestias and Souflion.
  • His Excellency Mr. Georgios Kalantzis, Secretary General for Religious Affairs of the Hellenic Republic, with his coworker, Ms. Vasiliki Keramida.
  • Professor Konstantinos Kyratzopoulos from the Great School of the Nation, with his daughter Ms. Maria Kyratzopoulou, who just graduated from Yeditepe University.
  • Mr. Hakan Çelik, a local journalist.

On Saturday, October 29, 2016, His All-Holiness flew to Ankara, accompanied by His Eminence Metropolitan Elpidophoros of Bursa, at the invitation of His Excellency Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Turkey, to attend a reception in honor of Republic Day at the Presidential Complex in Beştepe. During the reception, the Patriarch had the opportunity to speak with His Excellency the President.

Earlier in the day, His All-Holiness visited the Çengelhan Rahmi M. Koç Museum, located in the old town of Ankara, where he was hosted for lunch. He was then given a private tour of the impressive industrial museum, which was founded by the well-known entrepreneur and philanthropist after whom it is named.

The Patriarch and Metropolitan Elpidophoros returned to Istanbul by plane, arriving around midnight.

His Eminence Metropolitan Eirenaios of Myriophyton and Peristasis visited the Governor of Istanbul, His Excellency Mr. Vasip Şahin, to convey the congratulations and best wishes of His All-Holiness on the occasion of Turkey’s Republic Day.

On Sunday, October 30, 2016, His All-Holiness presided during the Divine Liturgy at Saint Demetrios Xerokrini. After the reading of the Gospel, the Very Reverend Deacon Paisios, Codicographer of the Holy and Sacred Synod, read the “Message of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to the Plenitude of the Ecumenical Patriarchate Worldwide on the 25th Anniversary of His Election to the Ecumenical Throne.”
In attendance were Their Eminences Metropolitans Barnabas of Neapolis and Stavroupolis, Pavlos of Drama, and Elpidophoros of Bursa, as well as His Excellency Ambassador Evangelos Sekeris, Consul General of the Hellenic Republic in Istanbul, a number of local faithful and visitors from abroad. Also present, representing the Mayor of Beşiktaş, was Mr. Nurhan Palakoğlu, who is responsible for minority issues.

At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, the Patriarch, His Eminence Metropolitan Eirenaios of Myriophyton and Peristasis, Hierarchal Proistamenos of the Bosphorus district, and Their Eminences Metropolitans Barnabas and Pavlos, each addressed those gathered. A reception followed.

On Sunday afternoon, October 30, 2016, His All-Holiness attended and spoke at an event co-organized by the Dunya Ehl-I Beyt Foundation and the Municipality of Eyüp for the Alevi festival of Ashura, at the Municipality Cultural Center.

His All-Holiness was represented by:

  • His Eminence Elder Apostolos of Derkoi, at a reception hosted by the Governor of Istanbul for the Republic Day of Turkey, on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at the WOW Hotel in Yeşilköy.
  • His Eminence Metropolitan Stefanos of Kallioupolis and Madytos, Acting Chancellor, at the wedding of Elias Frantzis and Anastasia Nika, on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at the Church of Panaghia Faneromeni in Vouliagmeni, Athens.

His All-Holiness visited Ms. Filitsa Kaftoglou, President of the Philoptochos Sisterhood of Chalcedon, at Baloukli Hospital, in order to wish her a speedy recovery to good health.

On Wednesday, October 26, 2016, His All-Holiness presided during the Divine Liturgy at the Church of St. Demetrios Xyloporta.  The sermon was offered by the Very Reverend Deacon Paisios, Codicographer of the Holy and Sacred Synod.

Among those in attendance were: His Eminence Metropolitan Kyrillos of Imbros and Tenedos, His Grace Archbishop John of Charioupolis, His Excellency Ambassador Evangelos Sekeris, Consul General of the Hellenic Republic in Istanbul, with his wife Ms. Maria Sekeris, and a group of pilgrims from Athens, Greece, led by Mr. Nikolaos Kolman.

At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, His Grace Bishop Adrianos of Halicarnassus, Hierarchical Proistamenos of the Phanar and Golden Horn District, offered a greeting, to which the Patriarch graciously responded.

On the same day, His All-Holiness visited the Monastery of the Life-Giving Spring in Baloukli to offer a Trisaghion at the tomb his late predecessor, Patriarch Demetrios.

On Tuesday, October 25, 2016, His All-Holiness presided during Great Vespers at the Church of Saint Demetrios in Tataoula for the feast day of the parish. A sermon was offered by the Very Reverend Grand Syncellus Fr. Ambrosios.

Among those in attendance were: Their Eminences Metropolitans Kyrillos of Imbros and Tenedos, Meliton of Philadelphia, Demetrios of Sevasteia, Athenagoras of Kydoniai, His Grace Archbishop John of Charioupolis, Ms. Danai Vasilaki, Consul of the Hellenic Republic.

His Eminence Metropolitan Gennadios of Sassima, Hierarchical Proistamenos of the district of Tataoula, spoke at the conclusion of Vespers, followed by the Patriarch, who then invited the Reverend Protopresbyter Fr. Alexander Fostiropoulos, from London, to speak. A reception was offered in the Community School, where Community Board President Professor Demetrios Zotos spoke, outlining the achievements of the community as well as honoring the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Patriarchal ministry of His All-Holiness, by congratulating and thanking him. The Patriarch responded accordingly.

His All-Holiness granted audiences to:

On Sunday, October 23, 2016, His All-Holiness presided at the Divine Liturgy for the Feast of Saint James (Iakovos) the Apostle—also the Thronal Feast of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem—Brother of our Lord and the First Hierarch of Jerusalem, at the invitation of His Eminence Archbishop Nektarios of Anthedon, Vicar of the Holy Sepulcher in this City. The sermon was offered by the Very Reverend Deacon Nephon.

Among those in attendance were: Their Eminences Metropolitan Kyrillos of Imbros and Tenedos, Apostolos of Miletos, Vasileios of Constantia and Ammochostos, Amphilochios of Kisamos and Selinos, Polykarpos of Spain and Portugal, Athenagoras of Kydoniai, Cleopas of Sweden and All-Scandinavia, Gerasimos of Petra and Cherronesos, the esteemed George Gaitanis, Consul of the Hellenic Republic, and a multitude of faithful from this City and from Australia.

At the conclusion of the service, His Eminence Archbishop Nektarios conveyed the fraternal greetings and best wishes of His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem, and presented, on his behalf, a gift to the Ecumenical Patriarch.

On the evening of Sunday, October 23, 2016, His All-Holiness visited the residence of His Eminence Metropolitan Iakovos of the Princes’ Islands in order to convey his congratulations and fraternal wishes on the occasion of His Eminence’s name day.

The Twenty-Fifth anniversary of the Election of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to the Ecumenical Throne:

Saturday, October 22, 2016, was the twenty-fifth anniversary since, by the Grace of God, His All-Holiness was elected to the First Throne of Orthodoxy. The Patriarch celebrated this anniversary in doxology and thanksgiving by presiding at the Divine Liturgy in the Venerable Patriarchal Church.

Following the Divine Liturgy, His Eminence Elder Metropolitan Constantine of Nicaea addressed the Ecumenical Patriarch on behalf of the Venerable Hierarchy. The Patriarch responded by recalling the major events in the life of the Mother Church during his Patriarchal tenure and thanking his brother hierarchs and the officials present for their prayers and wishes on this occasion.

On this auspicious day, His All-Holiness officially received in his office the Venerable Hierarchy of the Throne in this City, who offered their festive congratulations together with an icon depicting all the saints that have been canonized during his twenty-five-year ministry. His All-Holiness then received the Hierarchy of the Church of Crete led by His Eminence Archbishop Eirenaios of Crete for an exchange of greetings and wishes.

Afterwards, the Patriarch offered an official luncheon for the guests. At the luncheon, His Excellency Ioannis Amanatidis read a letter of congratulations from H.E. Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and presented the Patriarch with an engolpion.

The evening of Friday, October 21, 2016, His All-Holiness attended and addressed an event at the Sismanoglio Megaro entitled “Education in Imbros,” organized by the Philanthropic and Educational Imbrian Society in Istanbul.

The following evening, Saturday, October 22, 2016, His All-Holiness again visited the Sismanoglio Megaro for a concert organized by the Holy Metropolis of Derkoi, featuring soprano Esra Özbir and pianist Barış Büyükyıldırım.

Both of these celebratory events were organized in honor of the Patriarch’s twenty-fifth anniversary.

They enjoyed a heartfelt discussion with his All-Holiness followed by an exchange of gifts. Mr. Brahimaj was also invited to the official luncheon, where he had the opportunity to speak.

  • The Very Reverend Archimandrite Chrysanthos Dimitriadis, at a banquet hosted by the main opposition party of Turkey, the C.H.P., at the WOW Hotel in Yeşilköy, on Friday, October 21, 2016. His Excellency Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, leader of the Party, was also present.

On Saturday evening, October 15, 2016, His All-Holiness presided at Great Vespers in the Venerable Patriarchal Church of Saint George, as well as during the Divine Liturgy the following morning, Sunday of the Holy Fathers of the Seventh Ecumenical Council. Among those in attendance were Their Eminences Metropolitans Demetrios of Sevasteia, Stefanos of Kallioupolis and Madytos, and Athenagoras of Kydoniai, as well as a group of Orthodox youth from Finland.

As of Sunday, October 16, His All-Holiness granted audiences to:

On the morning of Thursday, October 13, 2016, the feast day of Saint Benjamin the Deacon, His All-Holiness visited the Holy Monastery of the Life-Giving Spring in Baloukli to offer a trisaghion for the repose of the soul of his venerable predecessor, Ecumenical Patriarch Benjamin (1936-1946), as well as to commemorate the falling asleep, a decade ago, of Elder Metropolitan Chrysostom of Ephesus, a former professor of the Patriarch during his years of study at the historic Theological School of Halki.

On Wednesday, October 12, 2016, His All-Holiness granted audiences to:

  • His Eminence Metropolitan Irenaios of Myriophyton and Peristasis, who presented, according to protocol, the newly ordained Reverend Hieromonk Kaisarios Chronis, a brother of the Monastery of the Holy Trinity on Chalki. Fr. Kaisarios was assigned to serve as the presiding priest of the Nativity of the Theotokos parish in Beşiktaş.
  • His Grace Bishop Adrianos of Halicarnassus, Hierarchal Proistamenos of the Phanar and Golden Horn district, together with the clergy of St. Demetrios in Xyloporta and the members of the Parish Council, led by its President Mr. Nikolaos Kalamaris. During their meeting, they offered the customary loaf of sweet bread, inviting His All-Holiness to the parish’s upcoming feast day.

On Thursday evening, October 6, 2016, His All-Holiness visited the Cultural Center of Chalcedon, where he was welcomed by the local hierarch, His Eminence Elder Metropolitan Athanasios of Chalcedon, in order to attend the theatrical production “Loxandra,” organized by the Steering Committee of the community of Chalcedon and featuring Ms. Anna Vaghena, actress and Member of Greek Parliament.

This event was held in honor of the twenty-fifth anniversary of His All-Holiness’ election to the Ecumenical Throne. Following the conclusion of the play, the Patriarch addressed those gathered, by thanking the organizers and Ms. Vaghena for her performance. Afterwards the Patriarch attended a dinner, at which he blessed the meal.
